Chemical transfer hose is specified from the inside out: the lining is chosen for the fluid, then the reinforcement for the pressure. Getting either wrong ends in a spill — and the lining decision is where most specification errors happen.
Lining Technology
- UHMWPE lining — ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, the workhorse for a broad range of acids, alkalis and solvents at up to 80-90°C. Non-reactive, non-contaminating, and far cheaper than PTFE for large bores.
- PTFE lining — the ultimate barrier, for the most aggressive chemicals, higher temperatures, and duties where the product must not touch anything else. Smooth, non-stick, steam-cleanable.
- XLPE lining — cross-linked polyethylene, a cost-effective option for a defined range of chemicals at moderate temperatures.
Construction
Textile or spiral wire reinforcement gives working pressures from 10 to 20 bar with full vacuum service, and a tough EPDM or CR cover resists abrasion, weather and oil. Anti-static variants are available for flammable solvents.
