Silicone earns its place where rubber cannot go: continuous temperatures to 200°C, repeated autoclaving, and contact with food or pharmaceuticals where taste and purity are the contract. Platinum-cured silicone is the premium grade — peroxide-cured compounds can leave by-products that matter in closed food or pharma systems.
Why Platinum Cure
Platinum (addition) cure produces no by-products, so the finished hose is cleaner, more consistent, and better suited to food and pharma contact. It also gives better long-term compression set and heat resistance than peroxide-cured material.
Grades and Compliance
- Food grade: FDA 21 CFR 177.2600, EU 1935/2004 food contact
- Pharma grade: USP Class VI, autoclavable, low extractables
- Reinforced: polyester braid for higher working pressure; stainless steel spiral for full vacuum
Typical Duties
- Beverage and food transfer — beer, wine, dairy, edible oils
- Pharmaceutical and biotech — media transfer, CIP/SIP
- High-temperature air and water lines
- Peristaltic pump tubes
FAQ
Is silicone hose autoclavable? Yes — platinum-cured silicone withstands repeated autoclave cycles without degradation.
